In 2004, the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and the American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF) called for a meeting to set a strategy for globalization of Respiratory Care Profession. Members of the Executive Committee of the International Council for Respiratory Care (ICRC) were invited to this meeting. and key officials of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and the American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF) met in Dallas to strategize an effective globalization of the Respiratory Care profession. It was suggested to develop a course titled Fundamental Respiratory Care Support Course (FRCSC); under the auspices of the ARCF in collaboration with AARC and the ICRC to be offered worldwide, the course be comprehensive and standardized covering all aspects of respiratory care; and should be based on best practice standards, identification of need, and upon written invitation by the requesting entity. The paramount goal is to enhance the care of respiratory patients around the globe by training individuals to properly and safely provide respiratory therapy procedures.
